Ever Wondered How Animals Sleep In The Wild? I Didn’t Know This About Walruses!
Growing up, “bed time” was always just the worst! I would swear that I wasn’t sleepy at all, and didn’t my parents understand that I didn’t need to sleep? I could stay up all night and be totally fine the next day! Of course, that was crazy and I only thought that way because I was 5 and still needed help tying my shoes, but I just didn’t see the point in sleeping when there will still so many awesome things to do! Now that I’m grown with kids of my own, I still can’t explain the technical reasons for why we all need sleep, but I will say that I’m so very glad when they get it!
Most mammals fall asleep at night, and as far as I knew, they all made beds and nests to get that much-needed shut eye and wake up refreshed and ready for a new day! But I never thought about any of these other animals. I don’t live in areas where they inhabit, so I guess it makes sense that I would know that a walrus just kind of bobs up at the surface of the ocean while dozing, or that a hippopotamus sinks to the bottom of a lake to get that perfect night’s rest! How cool are these animals!
