Give A Crow A Piece Of Corn, He Will Eat For A Day. Give A Crow A Stick?! OMG!
Because animals don’t have clear and consistent ways to communicate with humans, we often perceive them to be lesser beings. Yes, they may be sentient, but because they can’t talk to us, there’s not much that we can do to understand why they do what they do. That fact is why tests like these are so important – they tell us more about how these animals think and react to certain situations so that we can compare how we would fare in the same situations.
This crow is impressive for several reasons. The first is that this is a wild crow that has only been around these objects for a few months and figured out the test within minutes. It was amazing because even the trainer didn’t think it could be possible, but there it was, happening right in front of him! He was grasping for words and couldn’t hardly believe what had happened!
If a wild crow can do such a complex task that other birds cannot even begin to understand, what else do we not know about these smart birds? Hopefully science will be able to help us bridge the communication gap – although that might be a bit of a stretch during our lifetime.
What do you think? Were you impressed by this super smart bird? I know I was!
