His Daughter Died At 6 Years Old. What He Says At Her Grave Will Change Your Life.
It isn’t often that a video brings me to actual tears, but this one did it with just one change of scenery.
It’s been a long battle trying to keep drunk drivers off of the roads, but it just never seems to end. People go to bars, parties, and dinners without thinking that they might not be able to drive home – but that rarely stops them from getting behind the wheel anyway. Their excuses are always that “taxis are too expensive” or “I only live a few minutes away,” and most of the time, they get away with it. “I got home safe” is usually the text message they send out.
What’s terrible about all of this is that they only care about their own safety and not the safety of everyone around them. Sure, they might only live a few minutes away, but so does that innocent minivan full of children. Instead of people getting help or planning ahead, their choices sometimes have devastating consequences.
In the case of young Lindsey Ellis, just 6 years old, she was the victim of one such decision. Her mother, who was not sober at the time, decided to drive across state lines to escape an abusive boyfriend instead of reaching out for help and considering the safety of her daughter.
This father’s speech is heartfelt and deep, shining light on a very real problem that needs to be addressed. When people under the influence of drugs and alcohol get behind the wheel, they put everyone in danger: not just themselves.
