These Women Were Body-Shamed For Their Athletic Figures. Their response? Brilliant.
With the introduction of new social media sites, body shaming has become an increasing problem. With anonymous nicknames to hide behind, a faceless audience can say the most cruel and hurtful things about a person without ever having to leave their phone. The anonymous username leaving a comment might actually be sitting right next to you and you would never even know it. The problem is that there is no accountability for their actions. They are growing up thinking that as long as no one knows who they are, they can say whatever they want without any consequence.
The problem with this growing mentality is that there is a consequence for their comments, just not one that they can see. The people receiving these messages can’t just “ignore” them – they read these messages and feel attacked. The people who receive the most of these negative comments are usually women who are already successful. They have a message to their followers and fans about these body-shamers and hope that their audience will take their words to heart.
Women of all shapes and sizes are targeted by body-shaming, but that shouldn’t make you give up on who you want to be. Everyone is beautiful, and you need to be able to look in the mirror and be happy with who you are. If you’re not, you need to work towards who you want to become, but to remember that there is beauty in the journey, too. These inspiring ladies made my day! No more body-shaming!
