This Retired Disney Animator Decides To Try Out 3D Animation. The Results Are STUNNING!
His one frustration with his passion was not being “free” of the paper. For 38 years he worked as an animator on famous Disney films such as Tarzan, The Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast just to name a few. He would pour over the pages every day and feel accomplished, but would also carry that small bit of anger because the characters he was creating weren’t “real” enough. He was putting himself into this magical world but wasn’t able to experience it for himself.
He tries out this new technology that allows him to put his imagination to work that doesn’t require a pad of paper or a pencil – he creates them in a virtual space in 3D and can see them as large or as small as he wants. This lets the audience experience the characters as he sees them – and not as 2d pictures, flat and lifeless.
The future of animation is growing rapidly. It feels like only yesterday the first major 3D animation movies were coming out, and now you’ll find it very difficult to find a single film made without a touch of aid from the computer. It speeds up the animation process and puts the focus on the storytelling aspect rather than the physical animation itself. It let’s us go inside the minds of the creators and opens the world up to new and more incredible features than we could ever have imagined!
