This Village Has A Name That Most People Can’t Even READ Correctly…But This Weatherman Nails Its Pronunciation Without Even Blinking!
Okay, so he blinked one time, but that’s because most people blink once every 3 seconds, and it took him longer than that just to get through the village’s name!
As a kid, I felt a great sense of accomplishment when I was finally able to sing along with Mary Poppins to “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” without stumbling on any consonants. It was the longest word that I knew, even if it was totally made up! It was complicated and fun, and I felt even cooler when I learned to spell it! Perhaps it’s just me, but this village name seems SO much harder than anything else I’ve ever heard.
Unlike our made-up word from a Disney movie, this town’s name actually has a very simple and very real meaning: “St. Mary’s church in the hollow of the white hazel near to the rapid whirlpool of Llantysilio of the red cave.” If you speak Welsh, I’m sure this is little more than a tongue twister that you can probably master with a little bit of practice. The words are gibberish in English, but I’d assume it would be the same if we named a city “Thegroupofhousesnexttothatoneriverthatoverflowseverytimeitrains.” It looks crazy, but once you broke it down, it’d be simple to say after a while. I’d hope.
