What Would You Do If You Saw Photos Of Your Child Being Posted And Claimed…By ANOTHER Woman?! SHOCKING.
It’s a disturbing new trend happening among young teenage girls that is only growing by the day. While mothers on social media sites post pictures of their babies and young children, other people can easily copy and upload these photos as their own, adding whatever captions that they like. These girls will post a picture of someone else’s child with captions claiming that the child is their own with a detailed report on the child’s health and activities for the past few days. The obsession has been coined as a “role play” and it doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon.
The official term for this behavior is “digital kidnapping,” and although the babies may be safely tucked away at home with mom, their pictures might be circling the internet as someone else’s baby. A more disturbing aspect of this trend is that it has spread to more than just teenaged girls…adults are getting in on the trend as well.
So what can you do to protect the digital footprint of your children? The easiest answer is to make your social media sites private and watermark your pictures with your social media handle. If you can, send pictures directly to your friends instead of posting the pictures in a public album for the entire world to see. Being safe and aware on the internet is getting harder to do these days, but as long as you are aware and take steps to protect your loved ones, you can protect your children’s futures!
